Gardening for a Sustainable Future – Athlone Castle Garden Fair
From: 10.30am to 5.30pm
The courtyard of Athlone Castle will be transformed into a gardening fair, with demonstrations and advice on sustainable gardening from horticulturist Sarah Donlon, Brian O’Reilly, the CEO of Emerald Green, and Kate Egan from An Ghrian Glas Farm.
Inspired by the Herb Garden at Athlone Castle, local artisans and artists were invited to display their goods. A selection of handcrafted, sustainably made products will be on display, including jams, honey, other treats, nature-inspired jewellery, stained glass sun catchers, aromatherapy products, wooden boards, and much more.
This event at Athlone is supported by the Heritage Council under the Irish Walled Towns Network 2024 Interpretation Fund.
Access to this event is included with a regular admission fee.

Athlone Castle was first built to defend the crossing point on the River Shannon and evolved into a bold defensive structure over the centuries. Elements of the original castle can still be seen today.
