Tours from: 11.15am to 11.45am and 3.15pm to 3.45pm
Discover the newly established Herb Garden at Athlone Castle during our free mini-guided tours. Inspired by the castle gardens of the Middle Ages, Athlone Castle’s Herb Garden features native species of herbs, flowers, berries, and a wildflower meadow.
During the tour, visitors will discover the historical importance of horticulture and the multitude of uses for common kitchen herbs and flowers, as well as the importance of planting herbs and flowers to stop the decrease in the population of pollinators.
This event at Athlone Castle is supported by the Heritage Council under the Irish Walled Towns Network 2024 Interpretation Fund.
Places are limited, and pre-booking is essential. Access to this event is included with a regular admission fee to Athlone Castle.
