Bee Creative at Athlone Castle – Family-friendly workshops on all things pollinators
from 11.00am – 4.30pm
To champion climate action and sustainability, Athlone Castle dedicates Saturday, August 24th, to highlighting the role pollinators play in food production, the dangers they face, and what steps we could take to restore their populations to healthy levels.
Join Jesmond Harding, an expert on some of Ireland’s smallest residents, to learn more about the hidden lives of pollinators.
Programme of events as follows:
- 11:00am-12noon: Discover Ireland’s Butterflies- Illustrated Talk with Q&A
- 12:15-1:15pm: Display of mounted butterfly specimens, live butterflies and caterpillars
- 1:15pm-2:15pm: Butterfly Hunt in the Castle Garden
- 2:30pm-3:30pm: Discover Ireland’s Moths- Illustrated Talk
- 3:30-4:00pm: Display of live moths with a surprise
Then, drop into the arts and crafts tent to make “stained glass” paper suncatchers to decorate garden spaces.
There will also be face-painting and garden games available.
This event at Athlone Castle is supported by the Heritage Council under the Irish Walled Towns Network 2024 Interpretation Fund.
Access to this exhibition is included with a regular admission fee.
